Rains
03:14
|
|||
i remembered your chair reclining
back in 2008
and my eyes watered
and i remembered watering my neighbors' flowers
and thinking that i was important
and i was necessary
and i needed to see you right then
the first time i saw you with your new haircut
your hood was pulled over your head
and you were embarrassed
and i ran through the parking lot later on
and told you i was embarrassed
and you laughed
and i laughed
like we do
and i cried
like i do
and i needed to see you

Chlorine
02:54
|
|||
my hair still smelled like
fire and chlorine
you tucked your nose behind
a strand in a dream
but you're not with me
but you're not with me

now it's your turn to leave me at home
i'll never get used to being left alone
you said you managed as "patient and sad"
i can manage that
but can i manage the rest?
tell me what state you're in
tell me where your mind's been
i'm waiting to watch monday's shows with you
i'm wearing your old t-shirt
i wish your smell had lingered
i'm sending photos of time spent in my room
stability suits you
i hope this can help you through
tell me what state you're in
tell me where your mind's been
tell me what state you're in
tell me where your mind's been
keep me company with midwest stories
fade back into me when you return to new jersey

My Quiet
06:23
|
|||
please let me know if you'd rather stay at home
i understand
if it's one of those nights
i have them all the time
please let me sleep past morning
if i can, if i can
i'm tired of shaking hands shaking the same hands again
hear me, hear me
i'm speaking
is anyone listening?
my quiet can tremble but only so far
so far it's not far enough

C.I.P.
04:28
|
|||
an eleven hour headache
in a two-seater on the 6:43 train
and my hat is pulled halfway over my eyes
i thank the conductor as he takes my
ticket and involuntarily gasp for air twice
"calm down," i order my window reflection
as i stare through my own eyes to see
the river and the stadium
i'm so tired
i'm so tired
the remnants of rush hour are
filling the aisle as i search for my mother parked
in my father's car
